How I got here
I did not start in IT. I started in operations, at Lloyds Banking Group in 2010, doing resource planning. The tool everybody used was a spreadsheet, and it was not good enough, so I built a better one. That became the Planning and Capacity Manager, and it grew from a site-level fix into tooling used across most of UK Group Operations, standardising forecasts, resource plans and actual volumes across operational teams. I gathered the requirements by sitting with the planners and managers who would use it.
That is still how I work. I want to know why a system exists and who depends on it before I decide how to change it.
From 2014 to 2022 I was at Communisis, doing .NET development in and around the Captiva document capture framework, configuring and tuning ImageTrac and Kodak scanners, and running operator training, user acceptance testing and implementation documentation for production capture systems. Reliability was the actual job there, not a footnote, and I learned the difference between fixing a symptom every few weeks and finding out what was causing it.
From 2022 to November 2025 I was a product engineer on a large-scale document operations programme, working on .NET backend systems with SQL, Entity Framework, Microsoft Graph and Microsoft Information Protection integrations. The employer changed three times through TUPE transfers (SPS, Paragon UK, Tech Mahindra) while the role stayed the same, which is its own lesson about what continuity actually depends on.
PageTech Solutions Limited was incorporated in February 2026.
Principles
What I believe about this work
- Look at the whole problem before changing part of it. Most expensive mistakes are locally correct.
- Prefer evidence to assumptions. If I tell you something is slow, I will tell you how I know. If I cannot measure it, I will say that instead of implying I did.
- Documentation means someone else can run it after I have gone. Anything else is a document.
- Finishing the work is not the same as leaving you better off. A delivered system that only I understand has moved the risk rather than reduced it.
- Say the unwelcome thing early. It is cheaper for both of us on day three than on day thirty.
