Transparent pricing

Pricing is scoped around risk, systems and outcome

PageTech is usually a fit where the problem is bigger than a single ticket: fragile workflows, unclear integrations, production reliability, maintainability or safe change. The first step is normally a scoped review or clearly bounded delivery plan, so you know what will be looked at, what you will receive, and what decisions the work should support.

Scope is agreed in writing. The same accountable contact stays with you from first discussion through sign-off.

How pricing works

Not just time spent

Likely engagement types:

Diagnostic review

A bounded, scoped look at what's actually going on before anything is committed to. You get findings, risk, and options — not just an invoice.

Scoped delivery

Clearly bounded work with agreed deliverables, confirmed in writing before it starts.

Advisory / retainer support

Ongoing support for teams that need continuity rather than a one-off engagement.

What affects price

  • Number of systems involved
  • Risk level
  • Integration complexity
  • Access and documentation quality
  • Urgency
  • Handover needs

A written scope — and when a quote will be issued — is confirmed before any work starts.

How it works

Fixed-price, scope-based

No day rate or hourly rate is published. Almost all business work begins with a written scope or clearly bounded review, and the price is agreed and fixed in writing before work starts — the categories below are the shapes that work usually takes.

Code Reviews & Consulting

Fixed-price quote

Priced by scope and complexity once the work is understood. For code reviews, architecture advice, bug investigation, or short-term consulting. Work scoped and estimated in writing before commencement.

Project Delivery

Fixed-price quote

Priced against a written scope once requirements are clear. For sustained development, larger projects, and multi-week sprints — focused on outcomes, not billed time.

Long-Term Projects

Negotiable

Anything beyond 6 months is open to negotiation. I may discuss a retainer, phased fixed-price milestones, or another structure based on your specific needs and commitment.

Out of Hours Support

Priced on request

Critical issues outside standard working hours (before 9am, after 5pm, weekends, or holidays). Available on request with a minimum of 2 working days' notice. Minimum engagement 1 hour for resolution and handover.

Flexible-Timing & Infill Work

Often better value

The opposite of out-of-hours: if your work can flex around my existing schedule rather than needing an immediate start, say so when scoping. Infill work that fills a gap between larger engagements is genuinely useful to me, and it’s usually quoted lower than urgent work — sometimes significantly lower.

How to choose the right engagement model

Choose your current need to see the recommended pricing path.

Focused review

Use a focused consulting engagement for code review, architecture checks, and high-clarity next-step guidance.

Engagement model is chosen by delivery shape — pricing is agreed and fixed as a written quote after scoping.

Value

Why this pricing model

Industry Expertise

I bring years of business-domain knowledge to every project. I understand your industry's context, compliance requirements, and operational challenges. That means faster delivery, fewer false starts, and solutions that fit your actual business needs—not generic code.

What the code comes with

  • Unit tests written alongside the code, with a written note of what they cover and what they do not
  • Architecture documented so a developer who has never seen it can make the next change
  • Failure paths handled explicitly, including what happens when a dependency is unavailable
  • Assumptions and known limitations written down rather than left in someone's head
  • Microsoft Graph API permission and integration patterns handled safely
  • Microsoft Information Protection-aware implementation guidance
  • Handover documentation written for your team, so the work does not depend on my availability

Lower Total Cost of Ownership

Careful work costs more up front and less to live with, because the expensive part of software is rarely writing it. What that buys here is specific: a 30-day defect warranty from sign-off, the source and its documentation handed over, and knowledge transfer included — so the next change does not have to come back to me.

What that buys in practice: Maintainability, Knowledge Transfer and Production Reliability. Not sure this pricing model fits your situation? Read whether PageTech Solutions is a good fit or how engagements run.

My approach

How scope is defined

Price is agreed and fixed after an initial scoping step — no day rate or hourly rate is published, because it depends on scope. After a discovery call, I provide a written scope that clarifies ownership and cost from day one:

  • Scope: What you're getting and what's out of scope
  • Deliverables: Specific outputs and acceptance criteria
  • Timeline: Realistic dates and milestones
  • Agreed fee: Fixed price with a clear breakdown, confirmed in writing
  • Terms: Payment schedule and any conditions

Everything is confirmed in writing before development starts. If scope changes during the engagement, I discuss impact and revise the agreed price before additional work is committed.

Payment terms

  • No deposit: Scoped fixed-price projects require no upfront payment — invoicing begins at agreed delivery milestones.
  • Fixed-price invoicing: Invoiced against the milestones agreed in the written scope. Typically one invoice on completion for shorter engagements.
  • Time and materials: Invoiced weekly or fortnightly in arrears, with a written summary of work completed in each period.
  • Payment window: All invoices are NET 30 (30 calendar days from date of issue). BACS bank transfer preferred.

Typical Project Sizes

Indicative scope guide — not a quote

By engagement type

Real delivery timescales based on engagement type. All estimates assume clear requirements at scoping. Every engagement type is priced as a fixed-price quote, confirmed in writing before work starts.

Engagement type Typical effort Pricing
Code or architecture review 4–8 hours Fixed-price quote
Bug investigation & fix 4–16 hours Fixed-price quote
VBA automation / Excel tool 3–10 days Fixed-price quote
Process automation (C#/.NET) 5–15 days Fixed-price quote
System integration (API) 5–20 days Fixed-price quote
Legacy modernisation (scoped) 20–60 days Fixed-price quote
Long-term retained delivery Per agreement Negotiated

All timescales are indicative. Actual scope and pricing are always agreed in writing after discovery.

Discovery session: The initial scoping call is free of charge. If your requirements need deeper discovery — a technical audit, workshop, or detailed scoping document — that work is scoped and quoted separately before it begins.
